TitleBowman and Mann family
DescriptionThese papers of Miss Julia de Lacy Mann (Principal of St Hilda’s College, Oxford, from 1928), are mainly concerned with her brother, James Saumarez Mann, a political officer in Iraq, killed by a sniper during the Arab Nationalist uprising of 1920. The collection also includes some papers of the Bowman family of Clifton, Bristol: Miss Mann’s mother was Amy Gertrude Mann nee Bowman. Miss Mann lived at The Cottage, Bowerhill, Melksham until her death in 1985
These documents include very little concerning her interest in the textile industry (a few newscuttings, on the cotton industry, see 1038/29). In 1997 a quantity of her research notes were handed to the Wiltshire Archaeological and Natural History Society Library in Devizes, now the Wiltshire Heritage Library.
