TitleUndated confession by Margery who was the wife of John Hertham.
DescriptionHer husband acquired the land called Botelerys in Iatisbury (Yatesbury, Wilts.) from John Poyntell and left it by will to his daughter Joan, but Margery forged another will, leaving it to herself and her heirs. Being married afterwards to William Botreaux, he wished her to give it to him, but she refused, saying it belonged to the said Joan, who is a nun at Wilton, whereupon he went to Joan and induced her to give it to him for life at an annual rent of 6s 8d, to be increased on her mother’s death to 13s 4d.
DateMid 15th cent.
