DescriptionAccount book (Memorial or Journal D) of the dealings by Sir William des Bouverie (1656-1717) in the Levant Company, listing trades done on behalf of clients or on own behalf, mainly in the Mediterranean but increasingly to India. The accounts also include brokerage and the purchase and disposal of stock in other companies, e.g. the East India Company. Note 10 December 1695 during the War of the Grand Alliance (1688-1697) on the loss of the ship "Christanus Quintus" being taken by the French, even though she was supposedly a neutral ship. Each page headed 'Laus Deo' ('praise be to God')
