Also petition from Frances Patrickson (nee Dewsbery) to Viscount Folkestone. William Dewbery was a near relation of Lady Mary des Bouverie (nee Smith, d.1721); by his wife Frances he had two daughters, Mary (later Mrs John Rowe) and Frances, who became Lady Mary's companion. Both of these benefitted in the Will of Lady Mary and Sir Edward continued to act as their protector, until Frances married his steward, Mr Batty, who promptly resigned his post and sued Sir Edward for his wife's supposed legacies. Frances' subsequent tribulations are detailed in her 1755 petition to Viscount Folkestone as his brother's executor. |
