DescriptionJacob, 6th Earl of Radnor (1868-1930) spent the first 30 months of World War 1 in India in command of 4th Battalion, Wiltshire Regiment, before being posted home and, after a brief period in command of 14th Training Reserve Battalion, was appointed as commander of the Directorate of Agricultural Production, with the aim of farming land behind the front line in France to feed the troops.
These documents include: letter from Horace Smith-Dorrien regretting his inability to find a role for the 6th Earl at home, transport order from India, correspondence about transfer to Territorial Force Reserve and command of 14th Training Reserve Battalion, correspondence about unused Officers' railway warrants, promotion to full Colonel, his application for the Territorial Force War Medal, certification of two mentions in despatch and one in the London Gazette, warrant of the grant of Commander of the Order of the British Empire, similar warrant to the Order of the Indian Empire with a copy of the Statutes of that Order
