Description | The box known as Lady Rich's cabinet in Longford castle) seems to have contained seven Elizabethan miniatures, two letters from Elizabeth I, a "curious smelling bottle", coins and sundry antiquities, according to a summary and provenance in the handwriting of Jacob, 2nd Earl of Radnor (1750-1828), probably on his purchase of the cabinet and contents from Mrs Anne Lewis in 1796; there are photographs (2 black & white) and transparencies (4 colour & 4 black & white) of the cabinet, and two letters to the Surveyor of the Queen's Collection Trust. Letter from Elizabeth I probably to Elizabeth Stafford, Lady Drury, on the occasion of the death of her husband, Sir William, in 1589, with 18th century transcript and modern typewritten copy; on the reverse of this is another transcript, also probably by the 2nd Earl, giving the descent of the cabinet |
