DescriptionFamily papers and correspondence about the genealogy of the Lethieullier, de la Forterie, du Cane, Urry and Burrow families mainly collected by Sir James Burrow (1701-1782), president of the Royal Academy, grandson of Sir Christopher Lethieullier (1639-1690) who was nephew to Catherine Lethieullier (1587-1664) who married Jacob des Bouverie (1585-1643) as his 3rd wife; there are also occasionally comments on the earlier documents written in the handwriting of Jacob, 2nd Earl of Radnor (1750-1828) and correspondence after 1782 is addressed to him. Among the original documents are a letter from Christopher Lethieullier, the son of Sir Christopher to his sister & brother-in-law, Jane and Thomas Burrow, written from Hanover in 1701 and describing a meeting with the Electress Sophia ('a very fine woman') and her family including her son, the future George I ('very solid'), and her grandson, the future George II; a ticket for the invitation-only funeral (Ticket No.5) of James Du Cane to Thomas Burrow the procession starting in Clapham going all the way to St. Pancras (1702); and letters written in the 1750s from various members of the family trying to make the connection to the French Lethieulliers (Lady Sarah Fetherstonhaugh, nee Lethieullier, and Smart Lethieullier) or the Houblon family (John Loveday)
