TitleA catalogue of all the earls of Pembroke by George Owen. With a dedicatory address to William 3rd earl of Pembroke by the author’s son. MS. Volume with coloured illustrations of the coats of arms.
Description‘A catalogue of all the earles of Penbroke’ (fols 4–40), dated 1624 (fols 38v, 39v). Text on rectos; pedigrees, with painted coats of arms, on versos. Similar in many respects to NLW 24076, a manuscript in the hand of George *Owen, York Herald, the present manuscript appears to be in the hand of an amanuensis (or otherwise Owen himself writing less formally); it lacks the fine penwork initials found in NLW 24076. Folios 1–2 and 66–7 are blank; fols 3 and 41–65 ruled but otherwise blank. For particulars of the text, cf. NLW 24076. Some minor corrections by a contemporary hand (e.g. fols 29v, 30, 32v); an addition on fol.40 is datable >1630.
Folios i–ii constitute a letter, dated 1906, from Colonel Henry Howard of Wigfair, par. St Asaph, to ‘my dear Pembroke’ [Sidney Herbert, the 14th earl] gifting the manuscript to the latter; Howard on fol.iii notes that it once belonged to the library of John *Lloyd of Hafodunos and Wigfair.
Small 4o. 70 fols (fols i–iii, 1–67). Original limp vellum, gilt, in the same style as NLW 24076.
