Forward written by Charles Henry Talbot and report by surveyor Thomas Holloway of Chippenham, surveyor. 18. 17 Apr 1948 Letter from Simon Buxton, Area Agent, National Trust, to Edwards concerning Lacock Abbey water supply and Matilda Talbot's involvement. 19. 23 Aug 1884 Report by Dr Blaxall to the Local Government Board on Diphtheria in the Eastern Division of the Chippenham Rural Sanitary District. He reports that there were several cases of diphtheria in children and adults in the village of Lacock. He considered that this was probably due to poor sanitary conditions, in particular privies and well water. On page 3 he talks of a conversation with Talbot who gave permission for the water supply from Bowden Hill to be carted down from the abbey tank. He also expressed his intention to supply water to the village in future. |
