Description | 1. Instructions as to obtaining and erecting danger and caution boards: description of boards, how to get consent, mode of applying for them, despatch, post for fixing, painting, situation, protection and cost. 2. 8 Jun from W H St John Hope of the Society of Antiquaries, to say that he would like to arrange a visit to Lacock and be guided by Charles himself. 3. 15 Jul Copy letter from Charles Henry Talbot to Dr Tubb Thomas, County Medical Officer, about the general unease in the area about the water supply which runs from Corsham through the village and part of Lacock - the water is drunk by people and cattle and, if there is contamination, what will be done about it. 4. 19 Jul from Dr Tubb Thomas concerned about the water contamination he will visit the locality and will visit Charles if he so wishes. 5. 24 Jul from P Delme Awdry saying that he has written to a thatcher asking him to come at once and do a repair - he has asked before but it is difficult to get the work done. 6. 26 Jul from Thomas Pike saying that he will be very pleased to collect subscriptions for a Caution Board at the top of Cantax Hill but he thinks it would be better to wait to begin collecting when the cost is known. 7. 30 Jul from T Awdry, the Lions, Corsham to say that the amount for the Caution Board will certainly be raised with no problems and he feels inclined to let Wiltshire have the work as it is a carpenter's job and that Banks gets the masons and bricklaying work. He hopes the County Medical officer understands that the outfall of contaminations is not only from Corsham sewage but also from stuff that runs in from the southern side of the railway as well as the gas works which he believes are as guilty as the sewage in the matter of fish - but fish are not exactly a matter of health. Advises the best place for the board. 8. 21 Aug 1899 from J M Lewes, Bulidge House, Allington asking if himself, his wife and daughter could visit Lacock Abbey as they will be spending the afternoon at Lady Awdry's and would like to take the opportunity to visit. 9. Invitation to Mr and Miss Talbot from Mr and Mrs Herbert Prodgers to the wedding of their daughter Rhoda with Gordon Ley. |
