TitleLetters from Samuel Martyn to James Harding about a security to Mr Harding by John Talbot, and various legal discussions concerning the raising of the security and an act of parliament which allowed John Talbot junior to raise money.
Description1. 14 Jan 1767 asking if he can send the deeds to Martyn as the weather and his health are too bad to collect them, then they can proceed with the intended act.
2. 16 Jan 1767 to say he has sent the writings he requires. Names the deeds sent. He asks that they can be returned within three months.
3. 26 Mar 1767 to say John Talbot's bill has passed the House of Lords so it will now become a law. Adds that John Talbot wishes to add to Harding's security, and lists the properties.
4. 2 Apr 1767 about Harding's wish for a further £200 onto his security, and referring to the act of parliament which mentions the raising of money for John Talbot's future wife, if any.
5. 13 Apr 1767 to say Mr Talbot has agreed to Harding having more lands in security if Harding agrees on a lower interest rate. The security is already generous. The act passed that day, and will receive the royal assent the next day, which gives John Talbot the power to raise £12000.
6. 3 Sep 1767 to say he is now feeling well enough to proceed with work on John Talbot's mortgage; updating him on estates which are let out, and interest.
7. 26 Sep 1767 to confirm the draft of the further security to Harding is settled and it will be ready to execute soon.
8. 8 Oct 1767 to say he has sent the draft settled by Mr Wilbraham; he will send the office copy of the act of parliament when the matter is settled.
9. 1 Nov 1767 confirming the date of the mortgage deed and who it is executed by.
