Bundle 2: 1. Undated letter regarding a purchase hopefully by Mr Vernon who John Talbot is soon to meet and requesting he be sent a particular of Liddington and Barbary Down. 2. 13 Jan 1706 concerning Mr Norbury's attendance in town. 3. 27 Jan 1706 about high payments on mortgages, the possible purchase of Mr Harvey's estate, oppositions to the Act concerning the old Pitts and some new pipes. 4. 3 Feb 1706 about an enclosed letter to be looked over, sealed and delivered and knows nothing about a Mr Hall who is stirring up petitions. 5. 16 Oct 1707 to Richard Norbury about a proposed Act of Parliament for which the Bishop needs to give his free consent. 6. 8 Dec 1707 to John Talbot agreeing to be named in a Trust and asking him to let Lord Scarborough know he sent the receipt he desired. 7. 1 Nov 1707 about a Bill which he feels is impracticable and if presented at Parliament with the consent of those whose ground the pipes run through, there would be delay and opposition. 8. 29 Oct 1707 concerning the proposed Bill and the Bishop not accepting the Exchange of Lands. Voicing doubt about the ability of the Bill to be passed. 9. 29 Oct 1707 to Mr Wheeler about the award made by Mr Wheeler and Mr Bookey that does not please the Bishop. 10. 2 Jun 1708 regarding the Treaty with the great man which was begun by himself but believes Lord Scarborough never spoke with him about it. A Mr Chapman is now interested in the Wiltshire lands. 11. 23 Nov 1706 hoping that the Act of Parliament which he feels is reasonable will not meet with opposition. Was unable to go hunting with Lord Wharton due to a fitt of the gout. 12. 2 Oct 1706 informing him that Mr Norbury will be giving notice for a meeting at Wych. 13. 4 Apr 1711 about forwarding a draft document left by Sir Thomas Cooks Winford relating to the management of the Salt Works. 14. 15 Feb 1706 concerning the proposed Bill and Trustees of the Salt Phatts. On other side is an unsigned letter detailing various purchasers, making them Burgesses of Wych.
Bundle 3: 1. 18 Oct 1707 concerning a letter sent to Mr Norbury from the Bishop's steward which puts an end to hopes of the Bill being passed; blames Mr Wheeler for concluding the Award without consulting the Bishop. 2. 15 Aug 1708 concerning a letter received from Mr Gibson advising that he never agreed to an advance of 500 when the Trust was first agreed and appeals to Mr Longueville and Lord Scarborough that this is fact. Damaged letter with bottom torn off. 3. 10 Nov 1707 explaining his meaning in a previous letter about the Bill and that the Bishop is not in agreement to the pipes going through his estate. 4. 29 Apr 1707 acknowledging that he did not remember what he had written about the taking care that the Brine of the old Pitts was not taken for the use of those it did not belong to. Talks about the proprietors whose lands the pipes may go through and that he has had a small fit of the gout. 5. 15 Nov 1707 about an agreement over a point with the Bishop of Worcester and no time may be lost in bringing in the Bill. 6. 24 Feb 1706 about the Wyck Bill and suggesting it will meet with opposition and will need to be altered. 7. 16 Dec 1706 concerning the amounts that need to be raised by proprietors for laying pipes. Mentions Mr Harvey of Combe who is selling his estate at Dunthrop which adjoins his land and is wish to acquire this land. 8. 20 Oct 1706 expressing how glad that a resolution concerning the affair of Wych has some resolution. No word from Mr Norbury. 9. 18 Jan 1706 advising that if he buys Mr Harvey's estate he does not intend to build on it but use it for looking at and riding on. Advises that if somebody was in treaty for his estate, he should not let the occasion pass in selling what may clear the incumbrances on his land. A note at the end mentioning that Mr Arden is not interested in Mr Harvey's land. 10. Unknown date, concerning a treaty with Mr Vernon which was broken off and the only other person interested was a Mr Lechmore, the lawyer. 11. 13 Mar 1707 about wanting to build a house, and money matters. 12. 1 Feb 1707 writing that he will withdraw from purchasing the land as the D of M (Duke of Marlborough?) has made a higher offer. Talk of water pipes and brine at Wych and the Bill not being passed. 13. 18 Sep 1706 about the possible Bill and general opinions of the people on it. 14. 10 Feb 1706 about the Bill and potential problems with the proprietors of the Pitts. 15. 11 Jan 1706 about the possibility of getting lawyers, a possible rent charge from Lady Harvey for him to come into possession of her estate. 16. 2 Dec 1706 mostly about the Bill and the phatts and various negotiations. 17. 1 Mar note following research on some papers for the opinion of the Council. 18. 25 Oct 1707 about the influence of the Bishop of Worcester on the Bill and wanting to speak to him about the matter. 19. 28 Sep 1707 informing that Mr Norbury has undertaken to given notice to all the proprietors. The Duchess is due at Heathrop in 5 or 6 days. 20. 19 May 1707 about money raised by the proprietors being for the Act of Parliament and for an engineer, who should not be sent to view until the Act is obtained.
Bundle 4: 1. 6 Jul 1700 about a treaty, his health and beginnings of talks with the people of Wyche for the Act of Parliament. 2. 20 Jul 1700 about Lord C. not wishing to part with anything and the smallness of his own revenue and the affair at Wyche. 3. 31 Jul 1699 to say that before a Bill is prepared the proprietors at Wych will be at the expense of carrying the water to Severn and an engineer agreed. 4. 22 Jan 1699 about what needs to be done prior to obtaining a bill at Wyche, working with proprietors and local people. 5. 13 Jan 1699 concerning the dealings with the people of Wyche. Due to a relapse in his health, if it does not improve, will need to move to a warmer climate. |
