TitleLetters to Charles Henry Talbot.
Description1. 5 Apr from Harold Brakspear thanking Charles for his letter and saying that Armstrong had written to tell him of the resolutions passed at the committee meeting and that he might be over on Thursday morning so Mr Brakspear wired for him to bring the drawings. Apologises for not sending a note before the meeting. He has heard nothing from Armstrong about the heating of the church. Agrees that it would not be safe to fix the flag staff on the school gable. Will try to get over on Wednesday afternoon as he would like to see the clock tower while the work is in hand.
2. 25 Mar from C Awdry saying that he would have much enjoyed a visit to the abbey and taking part in the deliberations of the Fox Talbot memorial. Hopes the meeting will be able to decide on the progress, that it may be possible to settle the plans and to make a start by inviting tenders. He would be happy to either guarantee the money or give it.
3. 29 Mar from Arthur Schomberg, Seend saying that he must adhere to the two spellings mentioned in their correspondence and repeats that if anybody is blamed it will be the editor - if Mr Schomberg gives way it will destroy uniformity of the spelling and weaken resistance to others who may want to have words spelt differently to what has been the custom. Requests return of the proof when corrected.
4. 24 Mar to Mr Schomberg from the editor of the Devizes and Wiltshire Gazette saying that page 8 of Mr Talbot's manuscript is missing and cannot be found and could it be resent.
5. 29 Mar from Sidney Brakspear acknowledging receipt of Charles' letter which will receive attention on the return of his brother Harold Brakspear.
6. 1 Mar from William Gilchrist Clark-Maxwell telling him that he had recently seen in a second hand catalogue a "History of Worfield" by the Reverend S B James and purchased it. Extracted a sketch of the pedigree (family tree) and encloses it; asks if it is right. Notes there is a triple connection with Lacock and that "Sharington" remained a favourite baptismal name until 60 years earlier.
7. 3 Apr from William Gilchrist Clark-Maxwell to say he was very sorry not to have been able to attend the Memorial Committee Meeting last Thursday. Glad to learn that much progress was made and that tenders are invited for the work. Anticipates being in Lacock about the 14th of the month. He has sent his corrected transcript to the printers to be set up in type. Goddard wants him to make it into a paper for the "Magazine" and he has written a certain amount which he hopes will do for that.
8. 7 Apr from G H Falcon offering to help the committee if possible.
9. 11 Apr from William Gilchrist Clark-Maxwell thanking him for his letter and saying that as far as he knows he will not want to look at the deeds but if he could at the cartularies. He would like to see the book on Gwenney as that place has an interest to him - that it was a cell of St Peter's as was Bromfield. He would also be interested to see the repairs to the clock tower.
10. 18 Apr from J E Bush, The Pharmacy, Melksham, apologising for not being able to attend the Talbot Memorial Fund due to a motor accident but encloses half a guinea.
