They are pleased that Charles is thinking of joining the society. Enclosed is the prospectus saying who the patrons are, giving history of the society and their aims and interests, as well as information about memberships and the duties of members. 3. 16 Apr from A W W Bartlett agreeing to propose Charles as a member. 4. 30 Apr from Reginald Cripps of the People's Refreshment House Association about the Red Lion: they cannot take the house unless they are guaranteed against loss by people interested in the Wiltshire Trust. 5. 2 May from Reginald Cripps noting that Charles will call on them when he is next in town. Apologises for not being able to accept the house; they have not yet heard from Mr Tennant as to any guarantee. 6. 4 May from Oliver Williams of the Central Public House Trust Association to say he has forwarded Cripps' report to Mr Tennant who is organising the Wiltshire company, and asking for his views as he would like to offer the house to another of the Trust companies if the Wiltshire committee do not want it. They would be sorry if the house passed into the hands of the brewers. 7. 5 May from Rosamond Talbot with general family news; some information about visitors who arrived in the middle of a thunderstorm; the river had become very high and covered some of the land. Discusses the parish doctor and his wish to give up the practice which she approves of as "he seems to have been doing some unwise things among his patients". 8. 6 May from Rosamond Talbot with family news, and about the Red Lion and the Gloucester Company taking it on whilst a solution is found for the problem. |
