Description | 1. 5 Oct from W J Pike & Company regretting that Charles was unable to give an interview but that there was no obligation to subscribe (to what the letter does not say) but that he would like a few personal particulars of Charles, a portrait and a view of Lacock Abbey to be included in a work on Wiltshire. 2. 21 Oct from the Great Western Railway Divisional Superintendents Office: glad that the opening of a halt at Lacock met with Charles' "approbation" but that as halts are built on very simple lines and not of dimensions to warrant ordinary trains stopping at them they were unable to adopt his suggestion. Plus a copy of Charles Henry Talbot's letter to C Kislingbury, divisional superintendent, of 20 Oct stating that the halt at Lacock was of great use but that people from Lacock found difficulties in returning from Bath on the train and asking if the 4.55 running to Chippenham via Bradford could stop at Lacock Halt, on notice being given to the guard. 3. 30 Oct from William Gilchrist Clark Maxwell thanking him for the interesting picture of the "rail motor" although it was pity that it had had to be pushed on the opening day. He had checked the October Great Western Railway Guide and found Lacock in the list of stations but with no times recorded nor for Beanacre. He also asked if he could send Charles a chapter on Lacock in a work he was preparing for Miss Dryden for proof reading and comments on the bold proposal of the Corsham Gas Company. 4. 1 Nov from Mount Edgcumbe thanking Charles for the photo of the "motor train" although disappointed with the breakdown, family news and commenting on matters in Russia. 5. 13 Nov from Walter S Corder asking if Charles could lend him a copy of the "Pencil of Nature", the first photographically illustrated book, as he was to lecture at the Library and Philosophical Society of Newcastle on "Early Photography" with special reference to the work of William Henry Fox Talbot. 6. 18 Nov from Walter S Corder thanking Charles for the loan of a copy of the "Pencil of Nature" and his help in his work of "…making more generally known to north country audiences the historical importance of your father's discoveries". 7. 24 Nov from E B Myddelton, manager of the Capital and Counties Bank Limited, proposing to change the hours of attendance at the Lacock Bank offices to 10.30 until 12. Includes a copy letter from Charles Henry Talbot dated 26 Nov outlining the inconvenience to himself of the change of opening hours in Lacock and asking the bank to re-consider. 8. Flyer for "A Café Chantant" to be held at the Oddfellows Hall Lacock on 27 Nov in aid of the parish church organ fund. 9. 27 Nov from E B Myddelton apologising that the proposed change in the hours of attendance at Lacock would cause inconvenience, trusting that the change may not be imperative despite saving a considerable amount of time and expense for the bank. 10. 29 Nov from E B Myddelton confirming abandonment of the bank's change of hours. 11. 7 Dec from Richard Foley thanking Charles for an increase in salary. 12. 28 Nov from Rosamond Talbot reporting on her train journey to Margam Park Port Talbot and the guests at Bertha Fletcher's wedding. 13. Note regarding yearly rents. |
