TitleDraft letter from Charles Henry Talbot to the editor of the Wiltshire Times headed "Trust Public Houses" replying to two questions raised by a correspondent to the paper.
Description1. In what respect is the Trust Public House so far preferable to any other licensed house? Charles replied that managers of Trust Public Houses are paid a fixed salary, receive no percentage on sale of intoxicants but do receive a percentage on other refreshments, they are therefore under no temptation to push the sale of liquor. No credit is allowed and they are subject to regular inspection without notice).
2. Why in the village of Lacock the two licensed houses in the same ownership were not made Trust Houses? Charles replied that the Trust Companies are not prepared to take any houses but only those considered suitable for the Trust. The house let to the Wiltshire Public House Trust Company was let to the company on the outgoing tenant's retirement whilst the second had been occupied by the same tenant for a considerable number of years and there had been no question of change.
