3. 9 Sep Draft letter from Charles Henry Talbot to Grace Elizabeth Soltan stating that Susannah James does not come under his personal observation but that of his housekeeper who tells him that she gives complete satisfaction in her work but that he was unsatisfied with the visit to Lacock in his absence of Thomas James to see Susannah. Thomas James appeared to be a retired soldier on a pension who stayed in Chippenham for 3 nights and came over to visit Susannah twice. He had been described variously as an uncle, old friend and brother of Susannah who despite her initial protestations continues to correspond with her but had now gone to the north country.
