Description | 1. 19 Apr 1790 Letter to William Davenport Talbot ("my dear Bounce") from Captain C Crawford in Gibraltar, expressing a hope that Talbot is recovered and sending the Prince's compliments (Prince Edward, Duke of Kent and Strathearn). He encloses a list of clothing for groom and valet to be made by Glenton and Schweizer. 2. 14 Jan 1793 Letter from Messrs Cox & Greenwood to William Davenport Talbot regarding a letter from Captain Crawford about a debt of five guineas belonging to Talbot. Contains a copy of Captain Crawford's letter mentioning the sale of a pony to Captain Talbot for five guineas. 3. 15 Mar 1790 Unsigned letter to Lieutenant William Davenport Talbot from Captain C Crawford from Gibraltar who is accompanying Prince Edward, Duke of Kent and Strathearn. Captain Crawford refers to the Prince's duties and responsibilities and asks Talbot to come out to join them in Gibraltar as soon as possible. Also mentions Mademoiselle Victoise, possibly Madame de Saint Laurent. 4. 25 Sep 1790 Letter to William Davenport Talbot from Philip Smith Webb at Milford House. Refers to Geoffrey Beauchamp and mentions Talbot's friendship with "the amiable Prince". Offers to undertake any "secret" commissions and refers to their time working together to catch smugglers at Southampton. 5. 24 Dec 1791 Letter to Lieutenant William Davenport Talbot from William A Villottes writing from Ross Castle, Killarney and expressing gratitude to the Prince for wanting to appoint him as Colonel in his regiment but declining as he has accepted a post as colonel in the 69th Regiment. 6. 4 Jan 1792 Letter to Lieutenant William Davenport Talbot from J Dyer. Humorously refers to full-pay officers refusing to answer letters. Refers also to the Duchess of York (Princess Frederica Charlotte of Prussia) and her smallness of stature. Also refers to the Prince of Wales and a rumour that he may be "quitting the turf". Mentions several appointments in the household of the Prince of Wales, including treasurer, groom, auditor, secretary, and equerry. 7. 1 Nov 1788 Letter from Thanet, 9th Lord Sackville Tufton, to William Davenport Talbot mentioning a recurrence of a previous illness but applications of mercury are helping. Also refers to visits from duns (bailiffs) and the evils of gaming which Talbot is also experienced in.
