Description | 1. 10 May from John Paley stating that there was in the Taunton Castle Museum of the Somersetshire Archaeological Society a tobacco pipe, inscribed with the name John Hunt 1561, found at Taunton which pre-dates Sir Walter Rayleigh's return from Virginia by a quarter of a century with a sketch of the pipe (to be returned but copy made). 2. 22 May from A Ardine, tea supplier, thanking Charles for this order which had been dispatched that day by rail (carriage paid) and that due to a reduction in duty all their teas were reduced, listing prices and offering to send samples. 3. 6 Jun from Rosamond Talbot concerning the amount that should be paid to a "strange servant" to take care of the house during the housekeeper's absence, that William had taken his sisters to Cambridge to see the boat races on the train and mentioning an upcoming trip to Norway. 4. 10 Jun from W Middleton Ashman, Honorary Secretary of the Bath Photographic Society, asking for permission of the next outing of the Society to visit Lacock Abbey due to its connection with the discovery of paper photographic work. 5. 15 Jun 1890 from W Middleton Ashman confirming the date of the Society's visit would be 28 Jun next, Brakes would leave Bath at Noon with tea taken at the Red Lion Lacock at 5pm. 6. 30 Jun from W Middleton Ashman thanking Charles for his hospitality on the Society's recent visit and the invitation to re-visit next year, that the Society would be visiting Prior Park on 26 Jul next and that the Photographers Convention of the United Kingdom would be held in Bath in 1891. 7. 4 Jul from Sampson, Low, Marston, Searleand and Rivington Limited, booksellers, apologizing for the delay in responding to Charles' letter of 30 Jun 1890 but that they did not hold a copy of Tissandier's Photography as the last copy was sold some time before. |
