Description | 1. 6 Jun 1730 from Edward Best requesting the payment of an overdue bill in order that he might in turn pay his own debt to a Mr Pardoe. 2. 13 Apr 1730 from Dr Vernon of Trinity College relating to Henry Davenport's son, Sharington Davenport, account and enclosing a bill. 3. 13 Jul 1730 from Dr Vernon enclosing a bill. 4. 8 Aug 1730 from Dr Vernon thanking him for an invitation to Shropshire (written in pencil which is faded). 5. 28 Jul 1730 from Dr Vernon requesting that a bill apparently mentioned in previous correspondence from Mr Davenport be sent to him at another address. He mentions that he hopes to be able to visit in Shropshire his preaching work permitting and mentions that people in London do not know what to make of "your present situation of affairs as to the Italian expedition". 6. 11 Jul 1730 from Mr Browne concerning the provision of "straw satin exactly matched" and commenting on the difficulty in trading and the poor quality of the weavers. 7. 9 Jun 1730 from Moses James on behalf of the mother of Mr Davenport's gardener, requesting some news of her son believed to have been dangerously ill. 8. 25 Jul 1730 from Moses James with a bill for groceries. 9. 25 Aug 1730 from John Mytton with an additional extended note by Henry Davenport of 28 Aug 1730 concerning a meeting to pay his respects presumably in the hope he would be an acceptable suitor for his daughter Mary Elizabeth Davenport (they later eloped). 10. Undated letter from Mary Griffith addressed to "Madam" referring to a letter received by her daughter which had expressed a good opinion of John Mytton and confirming her agreement to meeting him. 11. 24 Jul 1730 from Henry Backe thanking him for his kindness. 12. 22 Aug 1730 from Captain Peter Davenport discussing the possibility of a future visit. |
