Description1. Bundle of letters 1707 to 1711:
a. 1707-1708 Account of Robert Nightingale giving details of chests of opium and shares in goods in the ships Marlborough, Charlton and Greyhound.
b. 17 Jan 1711 Letter from Samuel Shepherd asking Henry Davenport to promote Henry Shirley in any way so as to improve his stock and fortune.
c. 22 Jun 1710 Letter from Robert Nightingale to Henry Davenport and Mr Gulston Addison giving East India Company news and shipping movements. Ends by saying "We are all tyred with this long warr".
d. 5 Jul 1710 Letter from Robert Nightingale to Henry Davenport with East India Company business and comments on deaths of Sheldon and Addison. He says he will invest in diamonds and commiserates that the seas near Henry "are pesterd with pyrates and French". Mr Pitt arrived in Norway; Danes and Swedes had war.
e. 15 Sep 1710 Letter from Mr Curgenoen to Robert Raworth with a request to impart the details to Henry Davenport, concerning accounts of trading and shipping movements.
f. 26 Dec 1710 Letter from Captain Clarke to Henry Davenport giving an account of his voyage to Batavia.
g. 19 Feb 1710 Letter from John Nicholas to Henry Davenport and Osmond Beauvoir concerning worries about his goods to be delivered to Madras.
h. 18 May 1711 Letter from Edward Harrison to Henry Davenport enclosing accounts.
i. 26 Nov 1710 Letter from John Nicholas to Henry Davenport and Osmond Beauvoir enclosing a cheque.
j. 30 Dec 1710 Letter from Robert Nightingale to Henry Davenport to say he has arrived safely in England. Voices his unhappiness that Captain Harrison has been appointed Governor rather than Henry. He also gives news of brother Davenport who has resolved not to marry and includes business matters. Hoping king of France will soon be humbled. Doesn't think Harrison will be able to hold Fort St George long. Recommends investing in diamonds.

2. 31 Dec 1709 Letter of attorney from Bernard Benyon appointing Henry Davenport as attorney. Mr Benyon is returning to England from Madras.

3. Bundle of 1710/1711 business letters:
a. 11 Jan 1711 Letter from Thomas Woolley to Henry Davenport answering complaints by Henry and Sharington about their dissatisfaction of Henry's appointment as fourth Councillor at Fort St George. He gives reasons for the preferment of the Governor and the first three councillors. Chints are forbidden to wear in England.
b. 22 May 1711 Letter from Mr Broenken to Henry Davenport and Osmond Beauvoir. Written in Dutch with an English translation, he reports his safe arrival in Batavia.
c. 4 Mar 1711 Letter from Mr Broenken from Malacca. Written in Dutch.
d. 1 Jan 1711 and 7 Jan 1712 Letters from Francis Salvador to Madam Chardin offering condolences for the death of her husband Daniel and requesting money owed.
e. 20 Jan 1711 Letter from Edward Harrison to Henry Davenport informing him that the board has approved an improved position for him at Madras.
f. 23 Jan 1711 Letter from Thomas Marshall to Henry Davenport replying to Henry's complaint of a professional affront and assuring him that if he remains in India he will gain promotion.
g. 15 Aug 1711 Letter from Robert Raworth to Henry Davenport requesting the passage of some masts and stores on Henry's ship.
h. 23 Jan 1711 Letter from Henry Johnson congratulating Henry on his promotion to councillor. Includes a detailed account of some of his goods to be disposed of in the event of the absence or death of Bernard Benyon.

4. Bundle of 1711/1712 business letters:
a. Undated letter from Mr Molyneux to Henry Davenport informing Henry of the deaths of Lovell, Gale and Captain Newman.
b. 21 May 1712 Duplicate letter from unknown to Henry Davenport concerning trading business, news of political matters in England and general comments about mutual acquaintances.
c. 5 Feb 1712 Letter from Captain Raymond to Henry Davenport informing Henry of his passage on the Dartmouth and the deaths and illnesses of some passengers.
d. 14 Dec 1711 Letter from Gilbert Heathcote to Henry Davenport concerning the uniting of two companies and wishing for Henry's prosperity.
e. 15 Oct 1712 Acknowledgement by Alexander Reid and George Crooke of the undertaking to deliver cargo to England on their ship John and Elisabeth. Produce to be paid to Robert Nightingale merchant in London.
f. 10 Jan 1713 Letter from Thomas Woolley to Richard Hunt stating that the Committee have not changed their view on position in India.
g. Current account between Robert Nightingale and Richard Boulton.
h. 1 May 1712 Letter from Robert Raworth to Henry Davenport thanking Henry for his patronage towards his brother and expressing hopes for an end to the war. Benyon is at Pondicherry. Raworth thinks if Davenport doesn't agree to a deal there will be war again.
i. 25 Oct 1712 Letter from Mr Frenchfield to Henry Davenport giving a detailed account of his failure to secure a reasonable quantity of gold. They couldn't weather the Nicobars.
j. 10 Apr 1712 Letter from Mr Broenken to Henry Davenport written in Dutch with an English translation confirming that he has received the diamonds.
k. 12 Feb 1712 Letter from Captain Hudson to Henry Davenport with an account of his arrival at the Cape of Good Hope.

5. Bundle of 1713 business letters and one of 1709:
a. 3 Nov 1713 Letter from Daniel Boone to Henry Davenport asking if someone else can assist him in adjusting Moris's account in Henry's absence.
b. 27 Oct 1713 Letter from Richard Farmer to Henry Davenport offering Henry any help he can give in aiding the East India Company in regaining Fort St George.
c. 31 Apr 1713 Letter from unknown written in French.
d. 1707-1709 Copy of an account between Robert Nightingale and Gulston Addison and Henry Davenport.
e. 24 Jun 1713 Instructions from Henry Davenport to Mr Anthony Barnewall concerning the sale of diamonds.
f. 8 Jul 1713 Copy of an entry from a Fort St David consultation of Robert Raworth, in which he gives instruction of how to deal with someone accusing them of fraudulent cash claims.
g. 24 Oct 1713 Letter from Monsieur Dulivier (Governor) written in French.
h. 2 Sep 1713 Letter from Monsieur Dulivier written in French.
i. 27 Aug 1713 Letter from Monsieur Dulivier (Governor) written in French.
j. 19 Jun 1713 Copy of the last will and testament of an anonymous individual, possibly Robert Nightingale. Includes a note concerning the will from John Hungerford.
k. 6 Apr 1713 Letter from Robert Hedges to Henry Davenport concerning a query about interest on an estate owed to Captain Belton. Might cause a law suit. If Mr Russell continues to govern Hedges won't stay a year longer in Bengal.
l. 1713 Current account for Henry Davenport.
m. 22 Oct 1713 Letter from Bernard Benyon to Henry Davenport congratulating Henry on his success with the enemy and giving his accounts, drawing attention to a mistake in them.
n. 26 Oct 1713 Copy letter to Governor Dulivier from unknown concerning the dispatch of cargo.
o. 15 Oct 1713 Copy message to Governor Dulivier from unknown hoping Dulivier will permit boats to go off onboard ship and to land the detachment where most convenient, ideally one or two miles from his city. Saying he orders Gardner to Ariangopang where he resides. Other side of letter is to Ensign Gardner saying he is sending this letter to Dulivier ordering Gardner to come ashore with as many men as possible. He will probably land in Pondicherry before Ariangopang.
p. 29 Aug 1713 Letter from Monsieur Dulivier to Henry Davenport written in French.
q. 1 Feb 1713 Letter from Robert Nightingale to Henry Davenport concerning trading. According to Davenport's orders they sold diamonds in Holland but price low. Captain Hudson is dead.
r. 8 Sep 1713 Letter from Monsieur Dulivier to unknown written in French.
