Also thanking for letters received, apologising for brevity of reply and being sorry to hear of continued difference between the King and the Prince. 3. 17 Nov 1718 Letter from Charles Boone, Bombay Castle informing that 7000 rupees were being sent on the ship George as requested. Also about Mr Bennett being made bankrupt so does not expect to receive demands made. 4. 15 Aug 1717 Letter from Governor Hastings, Fort St David, informing him that his letter had arrived on the Bouverie which was being loaded with bales for next trip. Also trade was flourishing expected profits of 25 to 35 percent; the arrival of a French ship containing 100 chests of coral. An addition about the problems with the Rajah at Dew Island. 5. 24 Dec 1717 Letter from John Starke, Bombay Castle informing him that the problem with the cargo was not due to him as Mr Frederick was claiming, and that he had come to Governor Boone in Bombay who was very kind to him. Also he hoped to receive more commissions. 6. 25 July 1718 Letter from Charles Boone, Bombay Castle informing him that the Stanhope should do well as carrying more tons; that he is glad the Company supported him with regard to the dispute with the Portuguese but he wished their instructions were not so ambiguous as made it difficult to follow; his health still not good. 7. 20 Jan 1709 Letter from East India House to all employed in the service of the Company at Fort St George etc about the formation of the United Company by an Act of Parliament and what was meant by a specific clause. This included sending all records of debts and account books to the United Council so that Sidney, Earl of Godolphin, High Treasurer of Great Britain could settle them. 8. 3 Jan 1710 Document headed "Our President & Council of St George" very detailed (38 foolscap pages) includes lists of ships, destinations, profits, keeping spies on French shipping, need for soldiers, trade in the East Indies and in Europe, sorts of goods, named people involved. |
