TitleEast India Company: letters to Henry Davenport concerning East India Company matters, mostly about Robert Raworth, deputy governor of Fort St David, who broke into rebellion and shook off his allegiance to Fort St George. The president of Fort St George, Edward Harrison, immediately deputed a small force commanded by Henry Davenport to invade Fort St David and remove Raworth. Henry was commissioned as the provisional deputy governor of Fort St David on 10 Oct 1713.
Description1. 1711 Business letter from Robert Raworth.
2. 23 Oct 1713 from Robert Raworth stating his position: letters with as much security might have come to him as to Mr Davenport. On reverse is a note from Benjamin Hobbs to Gwynn enclosing Raworth's note.
3. Translation of Serrapa's letters to Robert Raworth and to Serrapa's slave. Letters were found by Kistna, Chief Dubash at Fort St David, sending them on 5 Jan 1714.
4. Undated letter from Robert Raworth enclosing some papers.
5. 16 Oct 1713 from Henry Davenport to Governor Peter Dulivier asking if he could supply a surgeon who can treat wounded men: talks of the "unhappy affair" that countrymen are "spilling each other's blood" and that over three quarters of the garrison have deserted Raworth.
6. 18 Oct 1713 from Henry Davenport to Governor Peter Dulivier. Davenport had received a letter from Edward Harrison advising him that he would send a ship to Dulivier's place with stores for Davenport.
7. 19 Oct 1713 from Henry Davenport to Governor Peter Dulivier saying that Raworth seems to be mad. Hoping arms arrive avoiding Fort St David.
8. 30 Oct 1713 from Dulivier about the provision of arms.
