Description | 1. 5 Oct 1713 Notice from Edward Harrison, president and governor of Fort St George, appointing Henry Davenport to be deputy governor of Fort St David. 2. 13 Oct 1713 Letter from Edward Harrison to the men in the garrison at Fort St David saying that they would be treated as traitors if they continue to prevent Henry Davenport's entry. Davenport was the successor to the late Deputy Governor Robert Raworth whose commission had been revoked. The men at the garrison had decided they would not submit to anyone but Raworth so had become "rebels to our Queen". Anybody returning to their duty would be forgiven apart from Lieutenant Patrick Johnston for murder and other unpardonable crimes. 3. 1713 Henry Davenport's account of estate in India: "List of my adventures abroad concerned in company debts standing out and what I owe delivered to Edward Harrison & Bernard Benyon my attorneys in India". Voyages in East Indies, Seurat, Batavia and China by named ships carrying cargoes of jewels, taffetas, gold and silver threads. One voyage to the West Coast for a slave wench. 4. 14 Jan 1714 Letter from Henry Davenport to Edward Harrison and Bernard Benyon advising that he has not had time to balance his books regarding his estate in India; appoints them executors of his will. On his death money to be invested in diamonds, sent to Madame Chardin for his daughter Mary Elizabeth and on her death to his second daughter, Mary Louise. 5. 18 Jul 1718 Receipt from Anthony Mendes da Costa to Henry Davenport for the principal stock of the United Company of Merchants of England. 6. 26 Feb 1729 Letter to Henry Davenport from John Hobbs in Bristol concerning purchase of mahogany. 7. 5 Sep 1944 Newspaper cutting from the Daily Telegraph concerning Allied armies crossing the Dutch frontier. 8. 15 Jan 1720 Letter to Henry Davenport from Thomas Theobald about the price of grain, having chintz painted green in Sadrass and being unhappy with a pattern he had made up with Henry's directions. Captain Boddam has gone to England and they are hoping he may be able to recollect an unpaid item on Mr Beauvoir's account. Also news that the Danes have declared war with the Moors. Mentions the trade of pearls and drugs and diamonds and silver. 11. 29 Jan 1720 Letter to Henry Davenport from Messrs Oadham & Theobald who have acquired a patch of gold chintz but were obliged to take three amounting to 42 pagodas. 12. 29 Jan 1720 Duplicate letter from Messrs Oadham & Theobald regarding a patch of gold chintz.
