Reference is also made to a Mrs Morton, Mary Turner "D (Davenport) House" and "Hester Barns the coachman's wife". 4. 24 Oct 1726 to Henry Davenport from Peter Davenport which reports his recent marriage to the youngest daughter of Mr Legh of Adlington whose independent fortune he deemed "enough to make me perfectly easy and happy". 5. 5 Feb 1722 to Henry Davenport from Jonathan Gurnell & Company relating to the sale of South Sea stock on behalf of the executors of Stephen Shaw. 6. 18 Jan 1716 to Henry Davenport from Daniel Adamson giving a report following inquiries at his command into the affairs of the Dudmaston estate, Shropshire which, it seems to have been rumoured, was to be sold to pay debts. It is confirmed that Sir John's circumstances were not so bad as to warrant this course of action. Also refers to plans by the Duke of Kingston to sell Tong Castle, Shropshire a seat left to him by the late Lord Pierpoint. Also announces the forthcoming marriage of Mrs Slaney to the son of Sir Humphrey Mackworth and refers to the fact that John Blakeman is keeping a dog to give to him on his next visit. 7. 4 Apr 1723 to Henry Davenport from Henry Foubert about an outstanding debt promising to pay half of what is owed shortly. 8. 17 Aug (1695) to Henry Davenport from Edward Tonge seeking reimbursement for the sum of £4.10 spent for his copy of a seizure and requesting some sort of payment as deemed appropriate for his own trouble. 9. 28 Feb 1720 to Henry Davenport from Mr Hooker regarding the purchase of wine. 10. 13 Sep 1719 to Henry Davenport from Charles Boone, written from Bombay Castle, referring to a voyage on behalf of the East India Company and mentions his pleasure at hearing from Henry Davenport that he had "accommodated matters with Madam Chardin". 11. 25 Jan 1710 Henry Davenport's copy of a letter from Suratt Barr to Messrs Bernard Wyche and Captain Christopher Cradocks Attorneys for the Suratt affairs of Henry Davenport and Charles Boone, "Merchants in Madrass". Refers to payment of £14,250 rupees having been made by Suratt Barr for the account of Henry Davenport and Charles Boone to John Russell and Abraham Addams out of a chest of treasure delivered by Mr Joseph Chitty a merchant in Calcutta for the Davenport/Boone account which amounted to 14,685 currant rupees eleven anas and six pice. 12. 28 Dec 1719 Duplicate letter to Henry Davenport from Charles Boone at Bombay Castle regarding business proposals for the continuation of trade in diamonds, Pearls and Bezoar. He advises against sending out money to carry on the Diamond Trade because of market conditions but confirms he shall look into the prospect of pearls. 13. 1719 Order from Talbot Ivory to John Talbot to pay Henry Davenport. 14. 23 Nov 1723 from Henry Davenport to Barbara Davenport which mentions her "linning manufactory" as well as banking advice he had given to Mason who, had he followed that advice, would have "been soon well" and a brief account is given of payments he had made to him towards wages that year. |
