TitleEast India Company: letters to Henry Davenport.
Description1. Sep 1719 Letter from H Brigges asking him to support his sister's son's application to join the East India Company. On reverse is a copy of Henry Davenport's reply with recommendation for the son and the suggestion that he be sent to a "healthful place" and not to Fort St George which has now become "desolate by the tyranny and villainy of the present government".
2. Undated letter from his brother asking him to pay a sum of 10 shillings to Mr William Colebourne.
3. Undated letter from John Smith at Eton saying that he had told his son that he had been ordered by Mr Davenport to give him 5 shillings at 12 pence a week: Sharington Davenport has promised to be good.
4. 29 Aug 1719 Letter from William Joyce concerning a policy of insurance that he wants from him (missing).
5. 1 Sep 1717 Note from Robert Thompson asking him to delay his trip to the Custom House for a day because of a holiday.
6. Undated letter from Sharington Davenport at Eton asking if he can come home at the weekend because it is a holiday.
7. 2 Jul 1719 Letter from Sharington Davenport at Eton to say he is working very hard and hopes to win Talbot's place in a couple of days.
8. 26 Aug 1719 Letter from Daniel Adamson updating him on matters from Worfield.
9. 25 Aug 1719 Letter from Mary Sutton thanking him for his "many favours".
10. 1 Oct 1727 Letter from Prideaux Sutton telling how he and his household had had distemper but all had survived.
11. 23 Sep 1717 Letter from Frances Hunt recommending a gardener.
12. 13 Jan 1727 Letter from John Morley at Bombay Castle, concerning the Cadogan, the Devonshire and the Stanhope.
13. 27 Aug 1727 Letter from Charles Boone: business letter from Bristol concerning monies paid out to Henry Davenport.
14. 11 Jul 1727 Letter from Leonard Phillipps concerning ship business at Bristol.
15. 29 Sep 1727 Letter from John Perks at Bristol concerning ships' cargoes, with a bill.
16. Undated letter from Sharington Davenport in Bath, telling of the extravagance of the place and lifestyle.
17. 19 Aug 1719 Letter from Thomas Wooley, gardener at Worfield, updating him on progress with the garden and what he has ordered.
18. 6 Sep 1719 Letter from Thomas Wooley with further updates on completion of Davenport's instructions for the garden.
19. Undated letter from James Colebrooke concerning financial matters.
20. 21 May 1719 Letter from Peter Davenport, asking Henry to arrange a meeting for him with the general as he needs to see him and doesn't know anyone else who can help.
21. 30 Sep 1727 Letter from James Colebrooke enclosing a letter from Mr Morley (not enclosed).
22. 1 Nov 1719 Letter from Robert Barrett about estate matters at Worfield: he has bought materials for various improvements.
23. 1727 Bill from John Austin for groceries.
24. 1727 Bill from Isaac Hollier for screws and hinges.
25. Undated letter from Arabella Davenport about family matters: Henry's son Harry is ill and Ara prays that his life will be spared and he will live to go to school with his brother Shell [Sharington]. Pleased with Sharington's progress.
26. 1727 Bill from [John Perks] for expenses at Bristol.
