Undated draft letter to her sister to say she has been unwell and still is; encloses something her sister forgot to send; says she is sorry her sister’s unnatural nephew is causing trouble; refers to a dispute with reference to Mr Hay, Mr Stubbs, Mary Sutton and Mrs Mytton. 5. Undated draft letter to unknown regarding financial matters with a proposal how the money could be repaid. 6. Undated draft letter from Barbara Davenport to her sister, probably Mary Sutton, with mention of Mr Adamson and Mr Stubbs’ family, and Bredon. Invites her sister and brother to stay with her. 7. Undated note to Mr Lovatt to say Thomas Barns is going to Birmingham to take a place in the stagecoach for her cousin Talbot (this possibly refers to letter 1 above). Mr Lovatt asked for a double horse to ride before her and a horse and boy to carry her portmanteau. 8. Undated draft letter to her brother to say she has had a bad winter and a sick family. Mentions Mr Child, the selling of Salwarpe to Mr Garraway of Worcester, Mr Poyner being asked to help with Mary’s backbone with stays, Mrs Yelverton, Miss Calthorpe, Mrs Rodd and Mrs Mytton. 9. Undated draft letter from Barbara Davenport to unknown to say she has had bad health since the news of the death of her brother Talbot Ivory in Ireland. Mentions Sir Rowland Hill, Mr Harwood and Rowley Farm. 10. Undated letter from Sharington Davenport to Barbara Davenport with a discourse on the view of his family to himself. He states he is not interested in accumulating wealth, only the happiness of his wife; and includes a poem on the subject. 11. Undated draft letter to the writer’s child mentioning the shock of the Queen’s death. Also talks of a remedy and other matters. Mentions Mrs Cleaton, Mrs Corbet the baker. 12. 2 and 21 Jan 1737 Copy letter from Prideaux Sutton (in Mary Lucy Davenport’s handwriting) as his wife has gout in her hand. He asks that his two sisters allow their nephew sight of his grandfather’s deed regarding payment of their annuities. The answer from Barbara Davenport says she has never seen nor has the counterpart of the deed; suggests Mr Morton or Mr Hill might have a copy. She queries why her son would want to see it unless to raise a mortgage on his estate. Another letter from Barbara Davenport to her brother talks further of the legal issues. 13. 20 Aug 1737 Draft letter from Barbara Davenport to her daughter with a detailed account of her daughter’s cook possibly stealing meat. Mentions Mrs Rodd, Sarah Barney, John Stockall, Mrs Phillips, Mr Whitmore and Mr Herbert. 14. 22 Aug 1737 Draft letter from Barbara Davenport to her daughter to say she has paid Mrs Moor for Sally’s stays. Mentions Mrs Harris, Betty Brook, Mr Mytton, Miss Rodd, Lady Longueville and others. 15. 17 Dec 1746 Draft letter to her brother concerning repayment of the money owed to her. |
