Gives news of forthcoming election for a director of the Company and the prospective candidates. 4. Undated letter from Mary Hallifax offering condolences for the loss of his son Talbot Davenport. Remonstrates with him over a letter he sent reproaching her for speaking ill of him in her house. 5. 12 Sep 1730 from John Talbot. Says that his expedition has improved his sister's health. Encloses an answer from Mr Allen [not attached]. 6. 15 Sep 1730 Letter to unnamed recipient from J Lyttelton asking him to discourage attempts by victuallers refused licences by Lyttelton to obtain them at Bridgnorth. 7. 22 Sep 1730 from Mr Browne asking him to return any green culestring that is left and requesting the payment of his bills for he is in need of money. 8. 24 Oct 1730 from Mr B Browne advising him that the promised payment for his bills has still not arrived. 9. 25 Aug 1730 Letter to unnamed recipient from George Weld informing him that 2 countrymen, Asten and Crump, are contending for Blundele Farm. 10. Undated letter to Henry Davenport from unknown (a sibling). The account he gave of his aunt Talbot makes him fear she won't recover. Mentions local gossip, a famous horserace, a new horse bought by Sir John Woldridge and about a child called Harry. 11. 18 Mar 1725 Letter from unknown to unknown. Has been several times to recipient's house in Charterhouse Yard but has not found them in. Desires them to sign an account. 12. 29 Aug 1720 Letter to Mr Nathaniel Husman from unnamed sender updating him on business matters, includes reference to his brother Talbot. 13. 15 Aug 1730 Letter from George Weld concerning the sale of Blundel Farm. 14. 10 Sep 1730 from Adam Ottley thanking him for all the favours lately received and asking him to send some iron latches and catches for field gates to Thomas Baker as promised. 15. 28 Jan 1730 from Edward Vernon who has received the bill of £100 which shall be placed to his son's account. As to the "Clare Hall affair" the tutor will not refund the income until someone takes Mr Davenport's room. Great debates expected in the House about the continuation of the Hessian troops. 16. 8 Sep 1730 from Thomas Ayliffe requesting money to pay an account for him to Mr Ludington. 17. 7 May 1718 from Isaac Nunes arranging a meeting to do business. 18. 23 Nov 1727 from John Kinnersly concerning the disposal of "Ellsall". Mr Davenport can be assured of first refusal if Kinnersly chooses to sell. 19. 11 Apr 1720 from Peter Davenport. Thanks him for sending the pedigree, has had a letter from the General about his commission but asks Henry Davenport to give a letter to the Bishop of Salisbury in favour of his brother to be one of the knights of Windsor. Postscript added that his son has died. 20. 28 Jul 1719 from C Talbot commiserating on the death of his father. The tithes of Worfield to go to his sisters. |
