Hoping that the General would give his blessing as this is what Peter wanted. 25. 21 Jul 1718 Letter from Lady Leyh regarding the marriage, apologising for missing the General's visit but saying that Peter's wife was with her and hopes that the General will continue his support of Peter. Also that they were in love for 10 years and that there should be a good dowry for the wife. 26. 16 Oct 1717 Letter from Shropshire saying he had missed the General to pay his debts but the court case he lost had caused money problems. Asked if could stay in private digs in Macclesfield as was much cheaper than when having to stay at a tavern as had to drink wine at lunch and dinner. 27. 4 Nov 1717 Letter from Macclesfield regarding the purchase of a Captain Lieutenant post with help of Colonel Hatton and what the General wishes him to do. Requests support for his 60 year old brother that he has been looking after to help get him into the Poor Knights of Windsor. 28. 27 Nov 1717 Letter from Macclesfield again requesting what the General thinks about the post above and is waiting to hear from him. 29. 28 Jan 1718 Draft letter from Major General Davenport (on back of recommendation of a person by P Renouard) replying to Peter's from Shropshire listing reasons why he had not answered and sympathising with problems. Gives amounts for purchase and selling of commissions, and says will help with purchase. Also answers that will try to help brother but it is for disabled officers and doesn't think he can. 30. 1 Feb 1718 Letter from Macclesfield responding to letter above - saying will try to sell commission and will see person interested, thinks brother will get in to Poor Knights with the General's help. 31. 3 Feb 1718 Letter from Shrewsbury: spoke to people about him and was pleased with what heard. Had been offered a lieutenant in the Guards but Mother preferred the General's regiment. 32. 22 Mar 1718 Letter from Macclesfield stating would not come to London until sent for by General and the commission was his because of the expense. Been told by a Major not to trouble the General with brother as so much being done for him but says General is only benefactor. 33. 2 Apr 1718 Letter from Macclesfield regarding the cost of the Commission, from Captain Listor, and asking what he should do. 34. 5 Apr 1718 Letter from Macclesfield regarding the sale of his commission and costing him more which he does not understand as against common practice but he will take the General's advice. 35. 14 Apr 1718 Letter from Macclesfield stating that Captain Listor was still insisting on more money, and he thinks it is because he had sold his commission at a good price.
