Aide de camp offered himself instead and Antonia agreed. Sworn by aide de camp to look after her but no contact with him since. Outlines financial problems, asks for money, asks for meeting to tell prince of insolence of his servants. Prince due to leave for Naples. 34. 17 Dec 1790 to Prince Edward fr\om Antonia Bertiola: a letter of goodbye. Leaving for Barbarie. Has ship arrived from France with various perfumery goods, wants to sell some to prince. Asks for charity for her little one Marianne as needs winter clothes. 35. 24 Dec 1790 to Prince Edward from Antonia Bertiola asking for charity for Marianne. 36. 03 Jan 1791 to Prince Edward from Antonia Bertiola (but in a different hand): Has applied for permission to leave and return to Gibraltar for passport as she is Italian. Request refused by governor. Reference to response in Italian. Writes to prince to remind him of promise to her that she has rights of 'inhabitant' for life and therefore to come and go as she pleases. Has been ill, coughing blood, and wants to go to Barbarie to recover and as living costs are cheaper. 37.
