First letter was sent saying that he himself had not invested too much in South Sea stocks but will pay Stephen the amount of interest owed. Further letter, from May says he had not paid it because had calculated too much but would pay it and not to worry. The letter to Charles concerns the affairs of Madam Chardin, and the will of her husband. Impossible to get trustees to do anything and needs Charles to return. Gives amounts lost with investments in the South Sea stocks. 2. 8 Aug 1721 Copies of letters to Lord Shannon and Major General Wynn. To Lord Shannon he wrote how he had tried to see him; about a memorial he had enclosed and how his brother had died with considerable debt. To Major Wynn he asked for help to recover the money. 3. 9 Aug 1721 Copies of letters to Edward Hopkins and James Wills about repayment of the money that Sharington had paid for his regiment. Mentions a memorial delivered to the Duke of Grafton and his difficulty in seeing Lord Shannon. |
