Description1. 6 Jan 1719 Letter from Lieutenant Colonel Thomas Hatton to Sharington Davenport from Dublin regarding his kettle drummer. With the original letter was a report from the general officers.
2. Jan 1719 Copies of 2 letters from Sharington Davenport to Lieutenant Colonel Hatton (ones in note above) with regard to clothing and patterns. Concern that the cloth in Ireland was not of high enough standard and who would make the uniform. Also about musicians transferring in (one Swiss, one German).
3. 3 Jan 1719 Copy letter from Sharington Davenport to Lieutenant Colonel Hatton in reply to his of 25 Dec. Further discussion on clothing, the payment for and the concern that rules for the payment were being changed contrary to the law and the King. He had raised concerns with the Lord Lieutenant. Kettle drummer mentioned.
4. 16 Sep 1796 Morning state of HRH Prince Edward's Company - list showing what 65 men were doing, including duties and sickness. Also list of 22 named men and what they were doing.
5. 25 Dec 1718 Letter from Lieutenant Colonel Hatton to Sharington Davenport regarding the payment for clothing his regiment for the last 2 years stating that the general officers had recommended that the cost be divided amongst the men, even those that had left. Letter finished with warning that Davenport had numerous enemies in Ireland.
6. 1715 List of dates in Sharington Davenport's handwriting from 18 Oct to 13 Dec detailing troops, named officers and problems, horses, clothing concerns and punishment in Black Holes and court martial.
7. 6 Dec 1718 Letter from Lieutenant Colonel Hatton to Sharington Davenport regarding a farrier who came from England and upset everyone; where the squadrons were going to be sent; replacing officers (including one who had died); men he wanted replaced including Earl of Roscommon who never came to his regiment and drank brandy in the morning.
8. 6 and 21 Dec 1718 Copies of 2 letters from Sharington Davenport to Lieutenant Colonel Davenport. First letter explaining that he had not clothed his regiments (had been a complaint) as he was hoping they would go back to England and become one of the Prince of Wales Dragoons. Felt very strongly had been unfairly treated as was more senior. In second letter replacing a kettle drummer, with a lot of warnings about drinking habits and need for swift punishment.
9. 3 May 1718 Letter from Lieutenant Colonel Hatton to Sharington Davenport regarding the good quality of horses sent; start of duty and the very poor state of clothing. Also mentioned Sharington's disappointment at not becoming an English regiment.
10. 8 Apr 1718 Letter from Lieutenant Colonel Hatton to Sharington Davenport sending his apologies for not having written as he was expecting him to come to Dublin and giving details of horses received, poor state of clothing and staff changes.
11. 4 Sep 1718 Letter from Lieutenant Colonel Hatton to Sharington Davenport regarding lack of pay of a quartermaster; stopping of Davenport's pay; hiring a chaplain; horses condition; poor clothing and some officers selling out.
12. Undated list of 9 named officers that want lace and cloth from England, with 8 that didn't.
13. 31 Mar 1716 Letter from Lieutenant Colonel Hatton to Robert Lympany Esquire, his father, Fulham regarding the death of his uncle. He believed he was the heir although no will was found but his uncle had stated it in front of servants. Also states he would try to come to England but would find it very difficult to get leave. Sends best wishes to his sisters.
14. Copy of memorial of General Sharington Davenport regarding a pension allowed to him by Lord Justices etc of Ireland not being paid as Commissary General says their order was to the contrary. He says Brigadier Warring had same order and received money so could he be dealt with likewise.
15. 22 May 1718 Letter from Lieutenant Colonel Hatton to Sharington Davenport regarding commissions in the regiment; the memorial and the problems encountered; disposition of troops and horses. Also a copy of order from Lord Justices etc of Ireland for the above pension to be paid in lieu of no troops from 5 Jan 1716 to 30 Jun 1717.
16. 15 Sep 1717 Letter from Quartermaster Hanchett to Sharington Davenport regarding non-payment of bills and the lack of orders to Hatton and officers.
17. 12, 18 and 20 Mar 1716. Copies of 3 letters regarding the inheritance of Lieutenant Colonel Hatton. First from Mr Keylwae stating he was executor but could not find will and that Lady Molyneux would soon be here [wife of deceased but lived apart] and could be to his detriment. Second from John Pitt stating that Mr Calloway had come and explained the situation but that now Lady Molyneux had sent a lawyer. Mr Calloway had kept a strongbox to which no keys had been found. Third from Matthew Dudley regarding the need to come from Ireland and the payment for Mr Calloway.
18. 26 Jan 1719 Memorial of Lieutenant Colonel Hatton that General Davenport has laid before the Duke of Bolton his contract with Mr Wills for clothing and has been approved for warrant for payment by HRH Prince of Wales from Lord Justices etc of Ireland.
19. 15 Jan 1719 Letter from Lieutenant Colonel Hatton to Sharington Davenport regarding payment of memorial and that Duke of Bolton had not written to the Lord Justices so were not paying; needing a complete list of clothing being made and the danger the General was in with the Irish government.
20. 18 Nov 1718 Letter from Lieutenant Colonel Hatton to Sharington Davenport regarding meeting of general officers about regiment. Stated that no complaints made but very difficult as general owed money, soldiers who wished to leave needed paying etc and very difficult to get recruits as no one wanted to come to this "villainous country".
21. 18 Nov 1718 List of named men (30 in total) which came with letter above that were to be turned out.
22. 18 Nov 1718 A copy of the general officers' report stating that General Sharington's regiment were ill clothed and should have had new clothes nearly 2 years previously.
23. 18 Nov 1718 Copy of the form that a private gentleman would sign at the end of his service stating how much he had been paid and that he would have no further claim.
24. 4 Oct 1718 Letter from Lieutenant Colonel Hatton to Sharington Davenport regarding having a vacancy in some squadrons by the King's order; the concern of payment; having to buy horse collars himself as the need was there and the future of the kettle drummer who had served for 26 years.
25. 8 Oct 1718 letter from Lieutenant Colonel Hatton to Sharington Davenport regarding a petition sent to the authorities regarding state of clothing of the regiment. General officers are to meet to discuss and will send copy of report when received. Thinks that he will be ordered to clothe the regiment and awaits orders.
