Title
Letter from Ian (Ashmolean Museum)
Description
Very much enjoyed his weekend with E. He knows both Victor Rienaecker and Miss Clay - she gave them a watercolour by Grimm of Gilbert White's 'Temple Farm, Selborne'. Victor was his predecessor - very kind but vague. Unfortunately he has lost all his money. Ian doesn't see what E could do; the odd lecture won't help and Victor will have to find other work. Enclosed: from Rotha Mary Clay, she writes to ask E if there might be scope in Salisbury for a series of Art History Lectures. She proposes Victor Rienaecker as a possible lecturer. Very knowledgeable but in desperate need of work after financial difficulties. has E met Canon Quirk yet? Mr Stevens has found a Grimm replica of the one she had photographed but with different groups. Her book is to be published by Faber & Faber and will contain 100 collotype reproductions inc. Salisbury. She heard Mr Street at Bristol and enjoyed his lecture on the countryside. Does E know the Hoares at Stourhead? She wonders if they might have any Grimms.
