Title | Altered Tithe Apportionments (ATA) Amendments to tithe rent charges could be made by the Tithe Commissioners to reflect charges in the status or use of land. Often this was as a result of railway construction. In most, but not all, cases a map is included. Exchanges of glebe land were often also dealt with by the Tithe Commissioners and several are present in the collection. The rent charges ceased in 1936 but those for Bremhill, relating to corn rents under an enclosure award of 1777, run onto 1960. Due to the different storage methods used by the diocesan registries of Salisbury (rolled) and Gloucester (folded) the documents are arranged by diocese. Those for Shalbourne, which came from the diocesan registry of Oxford, are rolled and folded but are in the Salisbury series. Copies from the parish church archives have been used to fill gaps in the series for North Wraxall, Purton and Sopworth. Order as ATA/Parish. |
