Elizabeth Wattes, midwife reported the same. Arthur Beache, tailor, 62; has lived there 32 years, during the 16 years he was clerk. Osmund Frickar, tailor, 70, lived there 48 years. Dorothy Wattes, wife of Humfrey Wattes, 68; has lived there for 40 years; was midwife for 7 years. About 40 years past she was married by Mr Dale in the lattyne service’. ff8-10. 29 Apr 1600. Munday/Monday v Noies; testamentary. Evidence of witnesses all of Salisbury unless otherwise stated: Robert Mylls, 30, Horsley, Gloucs, yeo; has lived there for 7 years; about Allhallows tide last 12 months Robert Munday was pressed a Soldier out of Wiltes to goe to Ireland’ and went there in her Majesty’s service ‘in marshall affaires’. About last within tide Mylls went to Ireland in the company of Mr John Hill, merchant tailor, living in Cork: Munday was then in Cork in service under Captain Northe, who then being cashiered [at Michaelmas], and Munday growing sickly, Mr Hill, who was well acquainted with, got him released from service and hired him a chamber in the house of one Galway in Cork, and got a woman to attend him, until about Coronation day last at night, he died of 'the bluddy flux': He was buried in the churchyard near the bishop of Cork’s palace [outside the city gate] by Mr Newman; Mylls saw him buried & paid the sexton for digging his grave and gave to those that carried him to the church meat & drink & money. About candlemas last the will of Monday he and William Hill brought to the parson of Manningford Abbots, whereby Robert Monday is reputed a dead man. John Dickson, 31, yeo: served in Ireland under Captain North and saw Monday laid in the earth. Christopher Mitchell, 50, saddletree maker; has lived in Salisbury for 30 years: was pressed with Monday & Dickson and served in Ireland under Captain Northe until was cashiered and then under Captain Sixton; he came to Cork and as he was returning to England heard that Monday had died. Edward Jackson, 30; has lived in Salisbury since infancy: served in Ireland as Mitchell; Monday was in a house in Cork where Edward’s master dwelt.

Evidence of witnesses all of Upton Lovell: Joan Lyde, servant, 21; was born there and has lived there from infancy; was spinning in a barn of her master, Mr [John] Riley, with Agnes Stevens; Cholcey called John Passion a bawdy rogue who kept two women at the end of town pointing to a barn that joined Mary Shepherd’s house. There was then no other woman kind in that house. The neighbour were Joan, wife of William Butler, aged 50, and Joan Everard, wife of John Everard and sister of John Passion and Agnes, wife of William Bartlett, aged 30. Agnes Stephens, servant, 27; was born there and has lived there from infancy. She is a ‘sole woman & never married. Has known Robert & Mary Shepherd these 6 years to be man & wife. Refers to a pair of ram’s horns hung up near Robert Shepherd’s house. John Weekes*, curate of Upton Lovell, 30; has lived there for 6 years; ref to request by Agnes Stephens for banns of marriage; it was believed that she was with child by William Ogbourne. There is no other house near Mary’s or Mr Riley’s less than 4 or 5 acres breadth. William Heyward, husbandman, 30, has lived there from birth; Agnes is ‘now great with child & neere her time to laye downe her bellie’. Richard Sparie, husbandman, 50; has lived there for 19 years; Agnes Stephens had to leave the service of Goodwife Watson because she was pregnant. John Mogg, husbandman (brother of Margaret Slie), 56; was raised there. Agnes was servant of Mr John Riley, but had to leave when she became pregnant. George Passion believed to have lived incontinently with Joan Lide. William Ogbourne believed tomb the father of Agnes Stephen’s child and they wee married last Allhallows tide..
