Robert Hippsley*, gent, 26; has lived there for 10 years; was born at Ston Easton, Som. As churchwarden he placed Mary Shergall in the seat formerly of widow Taylor, who left the parish. Mary asked if she could build a new seat in the space by the seat, and was allowed to; it extended into the seat in question. She agreed to relinquish the other seat, which was made lower. Mary Stoakes claimed that seat in question was too low and prevented its occupants from hearing the minster during services. She sat in the new seat and a lock was put on it to prevent her doing this. Reynold Parker was one of the carpenters who made the new seat.

Agnes Francklin, wife of Thomas Franklin; has lived there for 28 years; was born at Great Bedwyn. Mary’s ‘bellie was fallen’.
William Neale, yeo, 45; has lived there for 9 years; born at Horton, Gloucs. He wanted his wife to go to Mary and ‘search her’. Mary was asked if she would show her breasts to his wife [to enable her to decide if she was pregnant] which she refused. Mary had said that a young woman may be with child within a month of marriage or less. She was suspected of letting a stranger stay overnight in Neale’s house.

Joan Snowe, 60, wife of John Snow; has lived there for 38 years; was born at Tockenham Wick.

In the first 3 years he killed 40 couples of rabbits and in the 4th year he had 100 couples; each couple worth 12d.
