Richard Batten Salisbury, joiner, 76; has lived there for 60 years; was born at Ditchampton.
He knows the great board in the hall and great cupboard given by William Smith in his will to Sylvester Belcher did not belong to William but to Richard Pynnell of Netherhampton, because Richard made the table board as he was an apprentice to a joiner and he turned the legs in Richard Batten’s ?workshop [laier], and bought the cupboard from John Pynell. Richard Pynell enjoyed them in his house in Netherhampton many years before Smith came there. Alice Smith was the widow of Richard Pynell but not his executrix. She later married William Smith. She is the mother of Thomas Pynell.

Thomas Pynnell replied that they goods were given to him by Thomas Belcher.

Edith Come alias Richardes, Codford St Peter, 70, widow; has lived there from last Pentecost; before for 27 years in Ireland; before 14 years in Stapleford; was born at Sherrington. She was the wife of George Combes alias Richards and lived at Uphampton, in the house now lived in by Waters. See D1/42/33.

ff57v-63r. 29 Jul 1618. William Selman & Showell v Humphrey Oliff; rates tpwrds the repairs to Christian Malford church. Evidence of:
John Rilie, Avon, in Christian Malford, husbandman, 40; has lived there from infancy. There was a chapel at Avon which he remembers it being pulled down. A couple lived in it and the husband having gone away with another woman, his wife was laid down outside the chapel wall under four bouches, it being summer, and dying, was buried at Christian Malford. The chapel was taken down, and with the roof a little house was built a small distance away. John gals lives there now.
