Description | A complete section of a volume, containing the depositions in a case against Mr. Mathew Whittley, incumbent of Malmesbury with Charlton and Brokenborough for neglect of duty, drunkenness, and fortune telling. It is not dated, but is probably 1668 (the marriage of Adlam Lea in Charlton, near the last All Hallowstide [19 Nov 1667 in parish register] is mentioned in one deposition, and an unsuccessful attempt to bury Nicholas Hanks, which finally took place 4 Jan 1688 [parish register]). The case is an office one promoted by Lane and Knight against Whittley. It is probably a copy (the signatures to the depositions are in the same hand). |
