Nearly half the book is a list giving names and dates of bishops and other dignitaries of Salisbury Cathedral, to c1735; then there is a valuation of the prebends, and a page giving patron, advowson and other information about some parishes. The rest of the book consists of copies of documents bearing on the dispute between the bishop and dean over the bishop's right to visit the cathedral, 1682-1683; there are letters, articles, answers, a petition, historical and legal studies, etc. A few letters with the royal sign manual of Charles II, 1682, have been bound in. |
