Marriage licence bonds for the period after 1837 do not survive. The archives were offered post-1837 MLBs during the 1980s, however a decision was made not to retain these because the introduction of civil registration covered church weddings; it was felt that the had less genealogical information than can be found in the marriage register, because they did not state fathers’ names and so were not worthy of permanent preservation.
