TitleDeeds under great seals, and other royal appointments
DescriptionAn artificial series of deeds, mainly grants by letters patent or recoveries issued by the court of Chancery, bearing great seals or seals of the court of Chancery. Includes a few that are not royal documents, but marriage settlements or documents issued by the city and bishop of Salisbury. D4/1-120 had been listed listed their original numbers are added in the description. Several of these were clearly removed from an earlier numbered series now under ref 2057/D3.
In general the condition of the great seals and chancery seals is not good, and they have also suffered somewhat from inferior conservation.
Those with initial letter portraits of the reigning monarch have been noted.
