1 - Account book of all the revenues of William, first earl of Pembroke. Bound in at the front is an autograph letter to his steward, Robert Grove, authorising him to make an audit. A separate account is given for each manor or other place. Besides the family estates are lands of Henry earl of Southampton, Henry Compton and the countess of Pembroke. Also includes some of the estates of Mathew Arundell incl, Bradford on Avon, and Barton near Shaftesbury and Cranbourne (Dors). Other estates incl Downton and St Nicholas' hospital in Salisbury.
2 - Accounts of Lord Pembroke’s English estates for the years 1633 and 1635 by this receiver general, William Stockman. Bound into one volume. The accounts are classified under different financial headings.
3 - General estate accounts: receipts from money rents, fines, lands in hand, provision rents and woods and general estate expenditure. 5 vols., for the years 1747-1753 (1750 and 1752 are missing) Each account is covered in late 18th century wallpaper.

Herbert was Secretary to the Admiralty, 1841-1845, Secretary at War 1845-1851, and Secretary of State for War 1852-1860. The papers are an important source for the reorganisation of the army, particulaly medical reforms and the campaign in the Crimea. Florence Nightingale was a frequent correspondent and she figures heavily in the series.
Other subjects covered include campaigns in China, India in 1860, Ireland, Wellington College and the Royal medical School at Chatham.
