1 - Copy of a patent ‘from ye Tower’ granting to John Stourton licence to include 1000 acres of meadow and wood outside the boundries of the forest, in the manor of Stourton, to make a park. With (I) agreement to pay the bailiff of Stourton fair 2/6d for carrying on ‘some diversions’ on the third day, ‘such as Cudgiling or a plate to be run for over and above what the Lord of the Mannor may contribute towards it’, (ii) list, ‘Standings & Booths at ye fair ye 2d. and 4th. May 1724 – N.B that besides these ‘Standings & Booths, there was a great many more of both sorts yt had none at all & so sat up and down as they could’.

2 - Royal pardon by letters patent, to Henry Ludlowe of Tadley, Hants.

3 - Copy of act of Parliament [12 Anne] ‘for divesting the Crown of the Remainder in fee Simple of and in the Manor and Advowson of Stourton’.

4 - Printed notices, (i) Mere Down Races, rules, 1733. (ii) coal mining near Bruton (and letter), 1804. (iii) subscriptions to the sheriff’s fund, 1808. (iv) Mere Association on trespassing, 1821. (v) petition, against removal of the assizes from New Sarum to Devizes, no date.

5 - Correspondence (part 1), the earlier mainly to Henry Hoare about pictures, sculpture and architecture, including a letter (1744) from Henry Flitcroft, one (1764) from Michael Rysbrack, and a letter (1766) from Thomas Tyndall and two papers about the Bristol Cross (moved to Stourton), draft inscription for Alfred’s Tower. The later correspondence (parts 2-3) is to Sir Richard Colt Hoare about matters of antiquarian interest, including his published work; (part 2) with letters from William Miller, Rev Edw Duke, R Wedgewood, Edgell Wyatt, WL Bowles, John Britton, Elizabeth and Mary Cunnington, Thomas Leman, James Douglas, Lord Brownloe Richard Harris, John Offer, H Crewe, (part 3) incl letters from Thomas South, J Carter, J Hawkins (re German barrows), Charles Edward Long, William Owen Pugh, Thomas Rackett, Joseph Townsend, Richard Warner, Sir Henry Ellis, Henry Wansey, John Offer, John Buckler and others, sketch of earthworks and paved floors and way in Bedwyn Brail in Great Bedwyn, early 19th cent; two letters from Thomas Wassal, about a dispute over the burial of a Catholic pauper at Bonham, early 19th cent; letter of William Stukeley from Stamford, to [Thomas Herring, archbishop of York] about various sights of historic interest in Lincolnshire particularly Dryfford, 1747. 6 - An account of the number of hands through which the making of a piece of cloth goes.

7 - Narrative written and circulated by Margaret, Countess of Cork and Orrery describing the circumstances of an estrangement between Henry Hoare the younger and the Earl of Cork and Orrery, following the marriage of Lord Dungaven to Susannah Hoare, with quotations from private correspondence, annotated by Henry Hoare. Bound.

8 - Licence, by letters patent, to Charles Berkeley to enclose (ie define) the road from Upton Noble to Wincanton to a width of 15 feet; it runs in Bruton from Dark Lane over Whurling Pool Bridge by Farm Barton to Durlake road. Also to enclose (ie define) a footway from Bruton to Brewham to the width of 6 feet; it runs from Mill head at the end of Quaperlake Street and across several named fields in Bruton. Document partly illegible, but good impression of the Great Seal.

9 - Loose accounts (personal) relating to a wide range of items including, clothes, travelling expenses, sports equipment, newspapers, drugs, lessons, subscriptions etc.

10 - Eight quarto sheets written by Henry Hoare describing the scene when his uncle Henry Hoare announced his intention of settling the Stourhead estate on his grandson, Richard Colt Hoare.

11 - Letter, from John Axford to Rev Barton at Stourton about the death of his wife.

18 - Safe conduct for Sir Richard Colt Hoare to Switzerland, signed by Louis XVI at Versailles.

19 - Material communicated to Rev Benjamin Hutchinson towards a history of Huntingdonshire, including abstracts from parish registers, genealogical notes (Carysfoot, Leman, Earl of Sandwich), epitaphs, notes on Roman Huntingdonshire, the formation of volunteer cavalry (1794), lists of officers in the militia, lists of justices, population figures, naturalist notes, an account of Little Gidding, mostly by Charles Favell.
