1 - Ms. mathematical text book. A note at the back about forecasting the year’s weather from that of the 12 days after Christmas is dated 1594.
2 - Ms. book of questions and answers on Christian doctrine, citing the early fathers and confirming the doctrine of transubstantiation.
3 - Ms. instructions for various methods of warfare (a device for aiming cannon; a method of calculation of the amount of powder to be used; a machine for breaking down walls and the firing of a petard). Illustrated with four small drawings.
4 - A short ms. history of Henry III’s reign, with eight loose pages of insertions to be made in the text.
5 - Latin oration, apparently a school exercise.
6 - Ms. text book of geometry and surveying, compiled by Gilbert Diglen. With numerous diagrams.
7 - Rough copy Act, 1661, for insurance of houses in London against fire.
8 - Several ms. rhymes, on love and death and some comic subjects, including a carnival in Venice, and village club, and Bullen Reymes playing bowls at Ipplepen (Devon).
9 - Two copy letters on questions of faith and conscience, from the bishop of Rochester and W Montague.
10 - Mock catechism against the intruding ministers and the Puritans.
11 - Letter from lord Fitzharding asking for contributions towards building a market house at Bruton (Somerset).
12 - Printed brief for the inhabitants of Melcombe Regis (Dorset) after a fire had destroyed 37 houses there. 2 copies.
13 - Copy petition by the inhabitants of Lyme Regis (Dorset), 1670, for a renewal of an allowance from the Crown for the maintenance of the Cobb. [i.e. the quay]
14 - Copy of James II’s dying words and a speech by prince Charles Edward Stewart (2 copies).
15 - Papers relating to the Grove family of Ferne, including a printed pedigree (c.1820), a copy confirmation of their arms, 1577, and ms. notes on the family.
16 - Paper printed on the frozen river Thames. The printer inserted the name of each customer (in this case John Grove) into a border already set up, and presumably printed one copy.
17 - Copy Act ( 1 Jas.II, 1685-6), for building a church in Melcombe Regis (Dorset) to be the parish church of Radipole, and making the old church of Radipole a chapel belonging to it.
18 - Doggerel rhyme about a gymnasium, and part of a prayer; probably both by William Chafyn Grove.
19 - Volume containing extracts from theological and moral works, copied Julia Elizabeth Chafyn Grove.
20 - Miscellaneous detailed statements of pay, conditions, and losses in the army, 1792-1848. These appear to be notes made by W C Grove for his own use.
21 - Season ticket of admission to the Great Exhibition.
22 - Subscription list for the Patriotic Fund for widows and orphans of men killed in the [Crimean] war.
23 - Printed rules for the government of Zeals almshouses.
24 - Printed of E. Coker and Yeovil (Somerset) registers, relating to the Bullock family, 1698-1871.
25 - Certificate of Julia Elizabeth Chafyn Grove’s having visited the Holy Land.
26 - Programme “des theatres de son altesse le Khedive” [Cairo] for a performance of Aida and Adrienne Lecouvreur.
27 - Four letters to Miss Grove in answer to her complaints about an interment inside the church at Portesham (Dorset).
28 - Copy transfer of Wincanton National School from the managers to the school board for 21 years.
29 - Pedigrees and letters about the Grove family.
30 - Pedigrees of the Chafyn family, compiled by Canon Jackson.
