1 - A few letters received by the Revd Thomas Douglas Hodgson of East Woodhay from George Pretyman-Tomline, Bishop of Winchester.
2 - Rough memoranda book belonging to the Revd T D Hodgson of East Woodhay. Includes copy parochial poor rate valuation made in 1818, tithe notes and calculations, extracts from glebe terriers, extracts from the parochial enclosure award, lists of incumbentsand dates. Much later annotation.
3 - Papers of the ministry of the Revd T D Hodgson, rector of East Woodhay with Ashmansworth 1825-1884, as follows:- Certificate of declaration of conformity to the liturgy of the Church of England. Brampton, Huntingdonshire. 1820. Episcopal licence to serve as a stipendiary curate. Brampton, Huntingdonshire. 1820. Certificate of appointment as a deacon. 1820. Certificate of subscription to the Thirty Nine Articles. East Woodhay. 1825. Certificate of institution. East Woodhay. 1825. Certificate of declaration of conformity to the liturgy of the Church of England. East Woodhay. 1825. Certificate of induction to the rectory of East Woodhay. 1825. Certificate of appointment as a domestic chaplain to the Bishop of Winchester. 1826.
4 - Bundle of papers comprising correspondence, contract, mortgage to Queen Anne’s Bounty, certificates for stage payments to the builder, dealing with the construction of a new rectory house and outbuildings at East Woodhay for the Revd T D Hodgson. Builder: George Russell of Kensington, Middlesex. Architect: Henry Harrison of Park Street, London.
5 - Defence of the Revd Peter Young, a deacon and curate of Hursley, Hampshire, refused ordination to the priesthood by the Bishop of Winchester because of his belief in the real presence at holy communion. A printed pro-forma filled in and signed by the Revd John Keble, vicar of Hursley.
6 - Bundle of receipted bills, rough subscription lists, rough financial statements, printed financial statement and subscription list, and pocket account book recording subscriptions received and expenditures made, concerning the building, furnishing and fitting out of St Thomas’s Church at Woolton Hill, East Woodhay. [Woolton Hill was an ecclesiastical parish formed in 1850 out of East Woodhay. St Thomas’s Church was consecrated in October 1849]. Architects: T H Wyatt and Brandon of London.
7 - Correspondence and receipted bills relating to protracted negotiations to secure a site for a National School at Ashmansworth in the parish of East Woodhay, promoted by the Revd T D Hodgson; the building of the school; applications for grant aid; the financial difficulties encountered in keeping the school going due to local ratepayers’ apathy. The school opened in January 1872. Includes, auction sale plan [particular missing] of the Ashmansworth Estate 1862, specification of works 1870, draft conveyance in trust of the site for the school 1870, list of subscribers. The early part of this correspondence 1862-1864 also deals with the possible setting aside of a site for a church and parsonage house at Ashmansworth. By 1863 the church of the chapelry of Ashmansworth, part of the benefice of East Woodhay, was ruinous and beyond repair and there was no parsonage house or glebe land belonging to the chapelry Builder: Daniel Pope of North End, East Woodhay.
