| | | 2 - Orders, returns, and other papers, relating to the visitation of parishes by rural deans. The orders relate almost entirely to the fabric of the church, parsonage house and other buildings belonging to the church, to the furniture of the church, and to the residence or non-residence of the incumbent. Most of the documents are for 1812. The deaneries mainly dealt with are Avebury, Chalke, Marlborough, Malmesbury, Amesbury, Cricklade and Potterne, but there are letters containing reports on churches in the Berkshire deaneries of Wallingford, Newbury, Abingdon and Reading, and a letter of Bishop Fisher reviving the office of rural dean, 1811. |
